Dear Graduating Senior and Parents/Guardians:
As we approach the time of graduation, the faculty and administration of Corner Canyon High School congratulate
those seniors who have achieved in academics, athletics, and other activities while in high school. Please read and
review carefully the following information regarding the significant deadlines, events and graduation information
that is vital to the last few weeks of your high school experience. Additionally, we ask for your help and support to
allow the school year to end as smoothly as possible.
Students have until Friday, May 19, to purchase their earned honor cords from the main office.
All make-up credits and online credits should be completed and tested ASAP in order to allow time for credits
to be transcripted for graduation eligibility.
Cords for the over 400 seniors who have earned Advanced and Honors Diplomas will be presented during a
celebration on Tuesday morning, May 23, at 7:15 am in the cafeteria. This event is for students only.
Caps and Gowns were distributed on Tuesday, May 9, during both lunches. If you have not ordered a cap and
gown, please contact Jostens at 1-800- JOSTENS or at www.jostens.com. If you did order and pay for a cap and
gown but have not yet picked it up, it is either in the main office or with the student’s counselor pending the
clearance of fines, NG’s, incomplete credits, etc.
The Yearbook Signing Party will be an outdoor event held after school on Friday, June 2. Students will be
given their yearbooks if all fines are cleared. If students do not wish to attend the party, yearbooks can be picked
up on Monday, June 5. The party is a supervised, evening activity for students wishing to receive their yearbooks
UPDATE: The Goodbye Assembly will be on Monday, June 5, at 8:00 am and again at 9:00 am, in the
auditorium. This will be a tribute assembly to the CCHS Class of 2017, and will include student performances and
a video of the past year’s events. We will present the Semper Excelsius Awards at this assembly. It is
recommended that all seniors attend the 9 AM assembly just prior to their graduation rehearsal.
UPDATE: Graduation Rehearsal will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 5, in Charger Arena following
the Goodbye Assembly. Please allow at least two hours for the rehearsal. All graduating seniors who intend to
participate in the graduation ceremony must attend graduation rehearsal. Following the rehearsal, all seniors are
invited to a hot dog lunch in front of Charger Arena.
Corner Canyon’s PTSA will again be hosting a GradNight event at Corner Canyon High School beginning
Tuesday evening, June 6, at 10 pm. The event will end at 4:00 am, Wednesday morning, June 7. This event is
sponsored by the PTSA and not by Corner Canyon High School or Canyons School District. Updated information
will soon be available on the school’s website and at: cchsgradnight.com
The year’s events will culminate with the Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, June 6, at 2:00 pm. The event
will be held at the Hunstman Center on the University of Utah campus. In order to facilitate preparations for the
ceremony, graduates are asked to arrive no later than 1:15 pm. There will be ample seating for all guests, but
we recommend that other arrangements be made for young children.
We want to continue the tradition at Corner Canyon High School of having a classy and dignified event. Please do
not do anything that would detract from that. Students should be in best dress underneath their graduation robes.
Graduating young men are to wear dress shirts and ties, dress slacks, and dress shoes. Levis, shorts, tennis shoes,
flip-flops, and sandals are not appropriate. Graduating young ladies are to wear dress shoes and dresses or
skirts of length no longer than the graduation robe. Extremely high heels, flip-flops, and casual sandals are not
appropriate. Please gently press the graduation gowns.
The administration and senior class officers ask for your assistance with the demeanor and dress during
graduation. To honor students who have earned recognition by the wearing of cords, medallions, and collars and to
not diminish from their achievements, no other adornment will be allowed during the ceremony. Parents wishing
to honor their graduates with flower bouquets, corsages, or leis are asked to do so before or after the ceremony.
Personal items such as accessories or jewelry that draw undue attention or detract from the dignity and decorum of
the occasion will not be allowed.
Individual photographs will be professionally taken as students receive their diplomas. The purchase of these
photos is optional; we will distribute information about photos at graduation practice. If you would like to take
photos of your graduate, you will need to do so BEFORE the ceremony. There are several nice vantage points for
photographs. Immediately after the ceremony, graduates turn in their gowns so photos in their gowns need to be
taken before the ceremony. Parents/guests will not be allowed on the floor of the arena to take photos during the
ceremony. Additional graduation information will be sent to parents and posted on the school’s website in May.
Unfortunately, we sometimes have disciplinary issues at the end of the school year. Please be aware that certain
violations of district or school policy could prohibit your child from being able to participate in year-end activities,
including the graduation ceremony. Seniors who fail classes during 4 th quarter due to lack of effort or
attendance may not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Seniors must clear all 4 th quarter
NGs to be eligible to participate in the ceremony.
Parents, you have been notified if your senior is not on track to graduate. Counselors will notify students as they
become eligible to pick up caps/gowns and have been cleared to participate in the ceremony.
We appreciate the efforts of faculty, administration, staff, and parents to make the end of the year and the
graduation ceremony very special for graduating seniors. Congratulations again to the seniors and the parents of
the graduating class of 2017!
Darrell Jensen, Principal
