Dear Graduating Senior and Parents/Guardians:

As we approach the time of graduation, the faculty and administration of Corner Canyon High School congratulate those seniors who have achieved in academics, the arts, athletics and other activities while in high school. Please read and review carefully the following information regarding the significant deadlines, events and graduation information that is vital to the last few weeks of your high school experience. Additionally, we ask for your help and support to allow the school year to end as smoothly as possible.

All make-up credits and online credits should be completed and tested ASAP in order to allow time for credits to be transcripted for graduation eligibility.

Caps and Gowns will be distributed Wednesday, May 9 during both lunches to all seniors who have been cleared for graduation. If you have not ordered a cap and gown, please contact Jostens at 1-800-JOSTENS or at www.jostens.com. For students who have not yet cleared fines, NG’s, incomplete credits, etc., caps and gowns will be available through the student’s counselor once he or she has taken care of these holds.

Senior Awards Night is an “Invitation Only” event that will be held on Wednesday evening, May 23, at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.  Seniors receiving awards and recognitions will be notified prior to the event and will be invited to attend along with their parents.

Cords for the over 400 seniors who have earned Advanced and Honors Diplomas will be presented during a celebration on Friday morning, May 25, at 7:30 AM in the auditorium. This event is for students only.

Yearbook Distribution and Signing will be held after school on Friday, June 1Students will be given their yearbooks if all fines are cleared and then will be able to assemble in the courtyard behind the media center for yearbook signing.

The Senior Dinner Dance will also be held on Friday, June 1, beginning at 5:30 PM at Rice Eccles Stadium. Tickets are $40 and will be sold in the main office beginning Monday, May 21.

The Goodbye Assembly will be on Monday, June 4, at 8:00 AM and again at 9:00 AM, in the auditorium. This will be a tribute assembly to the CCHS Class of 2018, and will include student performances and a video of the past year’s events.  We will present the Semper Excelsius Awards at this assembly. It is recommended that all seniors attend the 9 AM assembly just prior to their graduation rehearsal.

Graduation Rehearsal will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 4, in Charger Arena following the Goodbye Assembly.  All graduating seniors who intend to participate in the graduation ceremony must attend graduation rehearsal.  Following the rehearsal, all seniors are invited to a hot dog lunch on the cafeteria patio.

Corner Canyon’s PTSA will again be hosting a GradNight event for all students. It will be at Corner Canyon High School beginning Tuesday evening, June 5, at 10 PM.  The event will end at 2:00 AM,Wednesday morning, June 7.  This event is sponsored by the PTSA and not by Corner Canyon High School or Canyons School District. Updated information will soon be available on the school’s website and at:cchsgradnight.com.

The year’s events will culminate with the Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, at 2:00 PM. The event will be held at the Hunstman Center on the University of Utah campus.  In order to facilitate preparations for the ceremony, graduates are asked to arrive no later than 1:15 PM.  Tickets will not be required. There will be ample seating for all guests, but we recommend that other arrangements be made for young children.

We want to continue the tradition at Corner Canyon High School of having a classy and dignified event. Please do not do anything that would detract from that.  Students should be in best dress underneath their graduation robes. Dressy pants/slacks, dress shirts & ties, blouses, and skirts/dresses are all appropriate options. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, flip-flops, extremely high heels, and casual sandals are not appropriate for the graduation ceremony. School dress code also applies. We have a dress standards committee that will be checking for inappropriate dress while seniors are lined up just before the ceremony, and any seniors not dressed appropriately will not be allowed on the floor. Please gently press or steam graduation gowns.

To honor students who have earned recognition by the wearing of cords, medallions, and collars and to not diminish from their achievements, no other adornment on caps or gowns will be allowed during the ceremony.  Flower bouquets, corsages, or leis will not be allowed on the arena floor during the graduation march or ceremony.   Personal items such as accessories or jewelry that draw undue attention or detract from the dignity and decorum of the occasion will likewise not be allowed. Caps should not be altered or decorated in any way. Any caps that have been decorated will be confiscated before the ceremony.

Individual photographs will be professionally taken as students receive their diplomas.  The purchase of these photos is optional; we will distribute information about photos at graduation practice.  If you would like to take photos of your graduate, you will need to do so BEFORE the ceremony.  There are several nice vantage points for photographs.  Immediately after the ceremony, graduates turn in their gowns so photos in their gowns need to be taken before the ceremony.  Parents/guests will not be allowed on the floor of the arena to take photos during the ceremony.  Additional graduation information will be posted on the school’s website.

Unfortunately, we sometimes have disciplinary issues at the end of the school year. Please be aware that certain violations of district or school policy could prohibit your child from being able to participate in year-end activities, including the graduation ceremony. Seniors who fail classes during 4th quarter due to lack of effort or attendance may not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Seniors must clear all 4th quarter NGs to be eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Parents, you have been notified if your senior is not on track to graduate.  Counselors will notify students as they become eligible to pick up caps/gowns and have been cleared to participate in the ceremony.

We appreciate the efforts of faculty, administration, staff, and parents to make the end of the year and the graduation ceremony very special for graduating seniors. Congratulations again to the seniors and the parents of the graduating class of 2018!

Semper Excelsius,

Darrell Jensen, Principal
